MARVINS COUNTRY STORE: CELEBRATING 30 YEARS IN 2016

Marvin's Country Store: Celebrating 30 Years in 2016

In 1986, David and Lucy Marvin purchased a small building in the Village of Johnson, next to the Johnson Woolen Mill. With a desire to open doors in time for the fall rush, they quickly made modifications to the space. The building, rich in history as a former schoolhouse and blacksmith shop, was transformed into Marvin’s Country Store.

Expanded shortly after to incorporate the adjacent building, the town’s “Old Firehouse”, the store had remained largely unchanged for nearly 30 years. In 2015, a major renovation was completed. With a new foundation under the portion of the store that was formerly the old firehouse, the two buildings were connected together as one open store and the entire space made level. As a result, the main level of the store is completely handicap accessible.

Though the appearance of the store has changed over the years, the store continues to focus on all things maple and features items made with Butternut Mountain Farm maple syrup and sugar. Vermont specialties like cheese, honey, jams and other Vermont specialty food and gifts fill the shelves, and the store continues to sell maple sugaring supplies and equipment to local maple producers.

Celebrating 30 years in 2016, Marvin’s Country Store is a feature of downtown Johnson Vermont, just minutes from Smugglers Notch and Stowe. Visit and discover all of our favorite products from Vermont and beyond.
