Après Ski Cocktails to Enjoy

The Green Mountains have been blanketed in white and the slopes are officially open. After a few runs at Smugglers’ Notch, Sugarbush, Stowe, Bolton, or any of Vermont’s many mountains, you may be thirsty. If we’re being honest, before we’ve even reached the top of the mountain we’re already looking forward to our après ski situation: ski boots off, fireside, washing down an abundant cheeseboard with a satisfying cocktail that uses maple syrup.

Maple imparts a signature sweetness and robust taste that gives traditional recipes a Vermont twist. Even if you après far from New England, maple can still enrich your concoction. Instead of using simple syrup where it’s called for, pour in pure maple syrup. This natural, wholesome sweetener has the same effect as a simple syrup, and it won’t disrupt the flavor profile of your preferred drink.

While you can use any classification of maple syrup, we recommend Grade A Golden, Delicate and our Sweet Bourbon maple syrup. If a cocktail isn’t your cup of tea, maple syrup works great in a mocktail, and afternoon coffee or tea.

If you’re looking to shake up your post shredding plans, here are a few recipes for your favorite libations that use pure maple syrup.

Spiced Mulled Wine

In the summer we prefer our wine poured with a chill, but during the winter months we’re about spicing it up. Literally. This Spiced Mulled Wine celebrates winter citrus and calls for cinnamon sticks, mulling spices and ⅓ cup of maple syrup.

Gin Gin Maple Mule

Sitting beside the fire can get toasty, especially if you’re wrapped up in a wool sweater. A Gin Gin Maple Mule with a splash of syrup can help balance the heat with a cool, refreshing minty sip.

Nor’Easter Rum Cocktail

Rum, maple and a little lime juice come together for a delightful post-ski sip in this Nor’Easter Rum Cocktail. Add a sprig of rosemary for an herby finish, or just to feel fancy.

Apple Cider Hot Toddy

Use our cinnamon infused maple syrup to get the most flavor out of this apple cider hot toddy!

Maple Rum Apple Cider Cocktail

We’re looking forward to a sip of this apple forward cocktail before we’ve finished our first run. The crispness of an apple paired with the robust nature of maple evokes an autumn afternoon. This cocktail brings all your happy places (a New England autumn and a Vermont ski lodge) together. Enjoy it with a sharp slice of cheddar.
