INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Move the oven rack to the middle position and preheat the oven to 425°F. Grease a nonstick cake pan.
  2. To make the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, maple sugar, cinnamon, salt and melted butter together. Set aside.
  3. To make the dough: In a large bowl, whisk the flour, maple sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt together. Add the buttermilk, milk and melted butter (2 1/2 teaspoon) and stir until combined. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until smooth.
  4. Shape the dough into a rectangle using a rolling pin or your hands. Melt 3 tablespoons butter and brush the dough with melted butter. (You will have some melted butter left over.)
  5. Sprinkle the filling over the dough and press firmly.
  6. Roll the long side of the dough to form a tight log. Press the seam to seal.
  7. Slice the roll into 8 pieces and place in prepared pan. Brush the tops with the remaining melted butter.
  8. Bake until golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes before frosting.
  9. To make the maple frosting: Whisk the cream cheese, buttermilk and pure maple syrup together until smooth. Add in a half the confectioners’ sugar and whisk until smooth. Add the remainder of the confectioners’ sugar and whisk until thick glaze has formed. Spoon the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls.
