Flaky and buttery phyllo dough, filled with nuts and drenched in pure maple syrup! What’s not to love?

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE FILLING:​

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans​
  • 1/2 cup granulated pure maple sugar​
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon​

FOR THE SAUCE:​

  • 3/4 cup of pure maple syrup, Dark Robust​
  • 1/2 cup water​
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice​

FOR THE DOUGH:​

  • 1 roll of phyllo dough​
  • 1 1/2 sticks of melted butter​

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix together the nuts, maple sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Combine the maple syrup, water and lemon juice in a saucepan and bring to a full boil. Boil for 5 minutes and let the mixture cool.
  3. Thaw one roll of phyllo dough, following thawing instructions on package. Unroll and cover the sheets with a damp towel or plastic wrap to prevent drying out.
  4. Butter a 9×13-inch pan.
  5. Place two sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the pan and brush with melted butter. Repeat this until the 6th layer. Sprinkle the maple sugar nut mixture on the top of the dough. Then repeat another 6 layers of phyllo dough, buttering each layer. cut into diamond shaped pieces before baking.
  6. Bake at 375°F until golden brown, about 30-35 minutes. Pour syrup mixture over the top and let soak in. Enjoy!
