Maple Gingerbread Christmas Card Cookies

These cookies are traditionally made by the Marvin family children on Thanksgiving morning while the adults prepare Thanksgiving dinner!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened​
  • 2 cups granulated maple sugar​
  • 1 egg​
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour​
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon​
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg​
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda​
  • Decorating Icing of your choice (optional)​

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a medium bowl, cream butter and sugar; add the egg and beat till light and fluffy – about 4-5 minutes.
  2. In another medium bowl, stir flour, spices and baking soda together. Add to creamed ingredients and mix well.
  3. Cover and chill till firm, about two hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  5. For best rolling out results, cover the dough in plastic wrap while rolling out on a lightly floured surface till 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut out with favorite cookie cutters – we recommend maples leaves!
  7. Place in the oven for 10-12 minutes until the edges are slightly brown – be careful not to burn. Cool for 1-2 minutes and decorate if desired.
  8. Freeze any leftover dough for another day.
