Prep time

Cook time

  • 3 cups pumpkin purée, homemade or store bought
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup apple cider
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. In a large pot, combine all the ingredients, stirring together until incorporated.
  2. Cook over medium to medium-low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. If the mixture begins to bubble ferociously, reduce the heat to low and stir to avoid pumpkin explosions of volcanic proportions.
  3. Allow the pumpkin maple butter to cool in a heat proof container. Cover and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks!

Note: If making homemade pumpkin purée, use a Pie Pumpkin! Honeynut squash is also a beloved sweet winter squash variety to use!
